Clinical Supervision
Supervision is useful in the behavioral health arena for novice practitioners and experienced professionals alike. It is one thing to be technically eclectic, which is a good professional practice; however, important to be theoretically grounded so that one can be a scientific practitioner when helping others. Supervision through CONNECTED allows the practitioner to meet regularly with a skilled professional to discuss casework and other professional issues in a structured way.
In clinical supervision, the five stages of the therapeutic relationship are explored and addressed to help the practitioner learn from his or her experience and progress in expertise. The five stages of the therapeutic process are: (1) Relationship Building; (2) Client Disclosure, (3) Therapeutic Interpretation & Intervention; (4) Client Insight; and (5) Acceptance or Reorientation. From this foundation, other professional topic areas tend to surface with the novice practitioner which help develop skills and professional standards. Even with experienced clinicians, periodic clinical supervision is a well-established way to ensure that ethical and effective services are provided to clients.
Clinical supervision is required for licensure, to safeguard against malpractice, and to help alleviate the issues that can result in professional burn-out. Numerous research studies have been published that support the benefits of supervision for both novice and experienced practitioners. Additionally when clinicians transition into administrative or supervisory roles, clinical supervision is crucial to help build and reinforce the new skill-sets necessary to achieve high professional standards and success. At CONNECTED, we have over 20 years of healthcare administration experience and proven supervisory practices that can be shared to help build a strong career path.
